Discover Krakow by an MHK BIKE – visit the branches of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków (the MHK) by bicycle!

The Historical Museum of the City of Kraków is the first museum in Poland to introduce a new offer – visiting the MHK branches by bike. Every visitor may follow one or more of the suggested thematic routes. Consistent riders may win cheaper or free admission to the branches of the Museum. Follow the designated route and collect stamps in the ticket offices of the MHK branches and you will get a discount and free admission to the buildings. The order of the visited places matters – the route must be followed site by site.
In each branch visitors are supposed to ask at the ticket office to have their maps stamped!

ROUTE 1
Mysteries and History of the World War II in Kraków
Explore the most interesting sites that witnessed the shocking years of the World War II. Learn about horrible crimes and terror at Gestapo headquarters. Explore the former Jewish district and learn about once flourishing Jewish community that came to the verge of extinction during the Nazi occupation of Krakow. Find out about heroes who were willing to sacrifice their lives to rescue Jews of Kraków. This tour is a lesson you will never forget.

1. Pomorska Street
The former gestapo prison is designed to introduce the sad and cruel stories of citizens of Kraków who were victims of either of two totalitarian systems: Nazism and Communism.

2. The Eagle Pharmacy
The original pharmacy building located by the former main Ghetto square houses a museum dedicated to the local hero Tadeusz Pankiewicz – a Man who decided to risk his life in an attempt to help and save his fellow Jewish neighbours.

3. Oscar Schindler’s Factory
The wartime history of the Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik and its owner Oscar Schindler was brought into the limelight in 1993 by Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List. It’s the actual place where Schindler saved lives of over a thousand people.

4. The Old Synagogue
On the ground floor of the old prayer rooms for men and women items for Jewish ceremonial use are displayed. They are presented in three main groups – the synagogue, holidays and private life.

ROUTE II
Unique Kraków
This route is designed for those who are seeking another image of Krakow. Following the route you can discover local customs and traditions – learn about the Lajkonik and the tradition of his horseplay, as well as find out about the origins of Nowa Huta Quarter – the perfect city for the working class.

1. Krzysztofory Palace
It’s the one of the most beautiful and impressive palaces in Kraków. One of its rooms is filled with portraits of Kraków’s intelligentsia as well as the masterwork of the artist-ceiling stucco The fall of Pheaton, referencing to the Greek mythology.

2. Pomorska Street

3. The Zwierzyniec House
It’s located in a former family house of the masonry master, in the heart of the old village Zwierzyniec. This part of Kraków is the most charming by its architecture.

4. The History of Nowa Huta
In the youngest district of Kraków you can see the typical architecture of the city after 1949. The branch collects all exhibits connected with this area, including the items from the period before the steelworks and new residential quarter designed as 'communist paradise city' were constructed.

Medieval Kraków Tour
Jump on your bike-time-machine and travel to the dark middle ages. Learn about plagues, secrets and mysteries of medieval Kraków. Discover how much different life was 600 years ago. 1. The Barbican and the City Defence Wall
The special tourist route brings you to the relic of the old Kraków’s defense system. Throughout the history Barbican entrance saw many national heroes and leaders being warmly welcomed by citizens of Kraków.

Bike Rental – Rules
To rent a bike you will need to:
1. present your valid I.D. (driving licence, passport) so an employee of the bike rental can record your personal data.
2. pay as a returnable cash deposit for each rented bike.
All payments must be effected upon the return of the bike. You do not have to decide in advance on how long your cycling trip will be.
Client is obliged to pay proper attention to secure the bike during the rental time with a clamp. Client is also notified that the bike cannot be used for racing and must be treated with proper care. 
The bike hire at the Barbican is open at the weekends between 10.30 a.m. and 6.00 p.m., and Cool Tour Company bike hire at Grodzka street no. 2 (in the outbuilding) every day between 9.30 a.m. and 8.00 p.m.
